Utveckling och Utvärdering av Simuleringsmodell för Laddluftssystem

Higher demands on lower fuel consumption, as well as unchanged or improved performance, are key factors in the development of engine combustion systems today. Common systems on the market are different types of supercharging systems with known benefits and disadvantages.

A recently developed supercharging system combines all the advantages of the systems enclosed. The actual system setup opens up more degrees of freedom to control and to reduce the disadvantages. This implies new demands to the control structure for reaching desirable system characteristics. A mean value model and a simulation tool have been constructed and evaluated. The model has been validated against the supercharging system and the developed environment for the system. The most important point of view is to get a good agreement compared to measured data for the system as a whole, to be able to read general trends and levels for actual signals in the system. For medium to high air flows with corresponding torque, the agreement is good. For lower air flows and torques it is low. More measurement needs to be done in order to get a better model and for a deeper study of the results. A proposal is produced and discussed in the thesis for the collection of data that is needed.

A complete vehicle simulation of an internal combustion engine equipped with the supercharging system has been carried out and works as a good start for further studies. It is shown that the actual supercharging system gives more degrees of freedom to the system development compared to traditional powertrains. Results that have an important impact on fuel consumption and performance are discussed. Based on the discussion an insight is gained for future work in system development.

The outline gained from the engine model seems to be good and usable as a technical aid for a rough modification of the actual supercharged system. For a more careful examination more accurate models are needed. A more careful validation is also needed for a wider range of the combustion engine's working area.

The final configuration of the supercharged system is a future challenge based on application demands. The developed models seem to serve as a good starting point for this journey.
